  • Dichlorphenamide is used off label (extra label) to treat glaucoma in dogs, cats and rabbits. This medication also acts to change the pH of the urine to an alkaline state, so it may also be used to treat urinary crystals and stones that form in acidic urine.

  • Diclofenac ophthalmic is a topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication used to treat inflammatory eye conditions in cats, dogs, rabbits, avian species, and other animals. Diclofenac ophthalmic comes in liquid drop form.

  • Difluprednate ophthalmic is a corticosteroid eye medication used to treat inflammation and provide pain management in the eye following surgery, injury, or in certain cases of inflammation (conjunctivitis, anterior uveitis, keratitis). It is recommended for use in all animal species except birds.

  • Diphenhydramine is given by mouth or as an injection and is used on and off label to treat allergic reactions, motion sickness, and to induce sedation. Side effects include sleepiness, and less commonly dry mouth and gastrointestinal upset.

  • Dipyrone (Zimeta®) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used in horses to treat fever. It may also be used off-label for the treatment of pain in dogs and cats, as well as cattle and rabbits.

  • Docusate (Docusate Sodium Bloat Preparation, DSS, Dioctynate®, Pet-Enema®, Enema SA®, Docu-Soft®, Anti Gaz, Bloat Eze, Bloat Go, Bloat Release, Bloat Treatment, Bloat-Lax) is a laxative medication used to soften dry or hard stools and assist with constipation and bloating in animals. It is prescribed for use in dogs, cats, horses, cattle, goats, sheep, and rabbits, but is not recommended for reptiles due to potential fatalities.

  • Echinacea, also known as the purple coneflower, is a dietary supplement made from the Echinacea plant, and is primarily used for immune system support, as an anti-inflammatory, or to shorten the duration of upper respiratory conditions. It is most often used in dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses.

  • Edetate calcium disodium (CaEDTA) is used for the treatment of lead and zinc toxicities when oral treatment is not possible. It may be used in all species of animals. Prior to treatment with edetate calcium disodium, it is imperative that the source of lead or zinc is removed from the animal through gastrointestinal decontamination.

  • Emodepside + praziquantel (brand name Profender®), is an antiparasitic drug used to treat and control hookworms, roundworms, and tapeworms in cats. Emodepside + praziquantel comes in topical solution form that is applied directly to the skin.

  • Encephalitozoonsis is a parasitic infection that can affect rabbits’ kidneys, eyes, stomach, and nervous systems. Common signs that may develop include heavy white plaques/growths inside one or both eyes, head tilt, eye twitching, and tremors or seizures. Treatments are available, though not all rabbits respond.
